Astral Travel

Spontaneous Out of Body Experiences

It can be a very terrifying experience for those who leave the body spontaneously, and even for those who do it intentionally. I am learning more and more, as time goes on, and as I experience more. I will add to the page as I learn, and hopefully be of some help to those who are as frightened, confused, or fascinated with what is going on as I have been.

What is Going On Here?

You're lying in bed, on the verge of sleep, when all of the sudden, your whole body becomes paralyzed, allowing you only to think, but not to move a single muscle. A vibrating sensation permeates your body, and you hear a loud sound, such as leaves rustling, or waves crashing on a shore, or like the sound of pavement being swept, or maybe even like a train going by.

What is Going Through Your Mind?

An astounding sensation of fear, mostly, if one does not know what is going on or why: being terrified is usually the first thing that one feels, and the need to force your body to move, obviously. But by the simple want or attempt to move your body, one diminishes the chance to leave the body. For those who don't know why this is happening, not being able to leave the body usually isn't the number one concern. But more than likely, if you are one of those people who've experienced what I've just explained above, that means you were on the verge of an actual out of body experience.

If you did not actually leave your body, you were probably too concerned with how afraid you were, and preoccupied with what was happening to you. There could be other reasons as well, but if you are at this stage, there are other things you need to be concerned about, such as, why is this happening to me? And establishing exactly where you stand on leaving your body, and if it's something you'd like to do.

Or...

An amazingly peaceful feeling of pure bliss. It feels like the wonder drug. The epitome of happiness. Quite possibly heaven. The vibrations are pleasant, and the loud sounds are tolerable. You feel totally relaxed and at peace. You wish you could stay like this forever.

All of the Sudden...

The vibrations come to a stop, the sounds are lower, but you still cannot move. And, like breaking free from a restricting atmosphere, you feel yourself rising above your body. It feels more and more peaceful, the more you come out, and the farther away from your body you get, you're letting it happen and it feels great

Until...

All of the sudden, a fear comes into consciousness, a fear such as, to name a few, I am dieing? Or what if I can't come back to my body? or what if an entity tries to possess my body while I'm not occupying it? And with that powerful fear, back to your body you go, and the experience has ended.

Possible Reasons/Theories

Why is this happening to me? Probably one of the first questions for someone experiencing this spontaneously. And one of the reasons you could be experiencing this spontaneously, is because there is something your soul NEEDS, that your not giving it: whether it be a mere glass of water, a happier life situation, or a person. There are many other possibilities - there may be something about yourself that you need to know, but only your higher self is able to show you. Maybe you are meant to travel on the planes and receive spirit messages (a messenger sounds pretty cool). What ever the reason may be, it is definitely an important one that should not go ignored. I have read that, usually one finds out the main reason of the experiences through their travels in the astral plane.

It May Seem Scary

But it's happening for a reason. So try and bare with it for a while, and find someone to talk to about it that can give you guidance. You'll gain control over it and it will be a wonderful experience for you!

Remember, thoughts are things, so stay in light and in love.

Everyting you just explained there has happened to me. We've discussed together years ago, and I remember thinking "Oh my god im not the only one"; cause i honestly thought the devil was possesing my body. It used to happen to me all the time when i was little. Probably 5 or 6 nights a week, and usually 2 or 3 times a night. Now it only happens a couple times a month, but i nolonger fear it and it can be quite nice, but sometimes annoying.
Sometimes though my head feels like its moving back and forth at a rapid pace and I don't like that at all. Do you have that too? Let me know

You should read up on it, it is very interesting.

It's possible that the out of body experience aspect of it sprung from sleep paralysis, or it could be that the paralysis is solely for the purpose of the oobe. Either way, it's weird stuff.

It can start happening at a critical time in your life, when you're extremely stressed or going through something bad.

I haven't experienced the paralysis in a long while now, but I know that as time went by I would experience more and more different phenomenon when I went through the it - I do not remember the sensation you described about your head moving back and forth rapidly, though I'm quite sure others have.

I would be interested in hearing some of the experiences you've had regarding your paralysis.

Oh my god. The weirdest one i think i've ever had was that i could feel my legs rising almost straight up but the rest of my body was still on the bed. I've also has halucinations where i can hear people screaming and sometimes laughing. It was pretty freaky.
You also might find this interesting. I've experienced outer body experiences and sleep paralyisis with the whole head moving back and forth thing with someone else in the bed. I can remember numerous times Lyndsy was right beside me watching TV, and i can remember waking up from it and thinking what the hell, did'nt she see any of that? really weird stuff.

Thats really interesting! I've heard of astral projection before but never got to talk to anyone about it, or hear first hand accounts.

Can you guys tell me more about it? Is it voluntary or involuntary?

i also had the out of body experience, but only once, when i was really scared. all this started happening when my uncle died. he went to say good bye to lots of people. my dad saw him with his own eyes in the evening. scarry. sleep paralasys happend to both my brothers and also my mom, so its quite possible, that dad people are trying to connect with us. it was happening to my friend, also. this guys best friend died and he came to say good bye to him and left all kinds of messages with him to other people. he was talking to him. it happend to my other friend too when she was small and her grandpa died, she couldnt move and she felt that he was standing behind her, and she heard calling her name. creepy.
back to my out of body experience... everytime i tried to sleep without the light off in the room, after my uncle died, i couldnt move, i could feel it coming, but i couldn't stop it. once after it stopped happening for a while i tried to sleep without the light, i lied down to bed and suddenly i couldn't move, it frieked me out som much, it took like a minute, but after few seconds i found myseld in a living room screaming at my boyfriend, telling him what happened to me, but he didn't respond to me, then it sucked me back to my body, the same thing happend i run to him telling him everything, he was at the same position i saw him before, scarry. i thing i was so scared, that's why i could go out of my body. crazy.

I also encountered sleep paralysis, and worse.. someone was pulling me out of my body as if inviting me to go astral travel. I cannot see the face, but in my dream, I have been in places that looks weird. I sometimes saw our garden, and in that garden, I saw some weird plants growing. Plant's that I haven't even seen before.

Am I having this out of body experiences? Or is this just a dream?

ive experienced astral travelling before, and i think its awesome! well, of course the first time it happened to me, i was terrified lol hahaha...but the first time it happened 2 me was different 2 all the rest, i think the first time it happened 2 me it was connected with my friend that had not long passed away, yup i was lying in bed, wasnt even asleep i was just resting, then all of a sudden i couldnt move my body..then i felt a sinking feeling, and it felt like i was sinking into my brain or some shit lol and when i heard the vibration sounds i seriously thought it was my brain cells about 2 burst or something! hahaha funny, how i was more concerned about my brain cells breaking then what was actually going on hahaha, but yeah, the reason i think it was connected with my friend the first time it happened is because, when she died...i heard a song on t.v that made me think of her, and everytime i heard that song i thought of her, i started getting really sad, because i felt like i wasnt allowed 2 be sad, or show how upset i was over her death, i dont know, but the first time it happened, i was laying in bed, and that song started 2 softly play in my head, then it got louder and louder, i thought of her straight away, oh and did i mention i couldnt move my body what so ever at this point lol, i didnt open my eyes tho because i was 2 scared, and i felt something trying 2 pull me out...but i faught agaisnt it =[ i wish i didnt, well as soon as i get 2 heaven im asking my bloody friend if that was her!!!!!! i cant be bothered telling the rest of my story so yeah. but yeah! go astral tavelling lol rep it hahaha!!!

my body goes paralyzed
at least 4 times a week
and the other night
i woke up from a dream and i was completley paralyzed, and i heard a girl talking behind me in a differant creepy language, and i fuckin freaked out but i couldnt move or scream and when i tried to open my eyes i saw black things shooting across my room
i though it was a ghost or somthing
but more than likely it was a hallusination, i was wondering if this is a medical condition, or somthing becuase i'm only 14 years old, and yes i have been through ALOT and i am extremely stressed but still its really scary.

Having an oobe isn't bad once you get the hang of it.

Don't get freaked out about having one either. The more stress you put on your spirit while you are out the more drained you feel when you come back. Next time something like that happens to you (the 14 yr old) try not to get so worked up about it. I know it's a hard thing to go through alone, but the more you talk to people about it (who actually understand) the more comfortable you will become with it. Not to mention the more knowledge you will gain.

I would try to find a local place that is pagan oriented, a local herb store, coffee house, a pagan community meet up. There is so much that can be learned from others, just by word of mouth.

Now, I'll tell ya about my oobe? Not sure if that is what it is or not.

At night I will be in bed about to go to sleep, nothing will be going through my head, all of a sudden my body jerks like I was falling, then jerked myself back. I get the feeling of weightlessness, as if I am free falling, then my body reacts and I jerk while lying in bed. Unbeknown to my husband, who could not have missed it, or so I though. It just shakes my whole self. Very odd.

Another oobe that I seem to be able to harness is while in meditation. I come to the end of my meditation, relaxing, feeling my breath come in and out. Somewhere in that moment I feel myself looking at myself. Odd, I know, but I don't just see myself. I see colors and they swirl like cream in coffee. I don't know what brings me back to my body during those, but something always brings me back. Maybe you know?

Love this site by the way. Lady Corvus is mine, look me up and please add me. I shall try to add this blog to my list of favs if I can remember my password. *feels bad*
